Wynne Evans
Wynne is one of the UK’s leading tenors, having sung as a principal with all of the major opera houses and orchestras, including Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera and English National Opera.
Wynne Evans was born in Carmarthen, South Wales and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the National Opera Studio, London.
He enjoys a close association with Welsh National Opera where he has worked as a principal for the last 15 years singing over 50 major roles. He has also worked as a principal all over the world including with the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Opera Lyon, Scottish Opera and Glyndebourne.
His vast concert and recital repertoire has included collaborations with many of the nation’s première ensembles, including The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. His many recital credits have included Wigmore Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, St. David’s Hall Cardiff, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Bridgewater Hall Manchester and also appeared as the tenor soloist at the opening night of the BBC Proms, and at the Welsh Proms.
Wynne runs a trust in memory of his late mother Elizabeth Evans MBE which sponsors young welsh people who wish to study for a career in the performing arts. Wynne is an ambassador for St. Johns Wales, The Teenage Cancer Trust and the British Heart Foundation for researching the treatment for Ovarian Cancer Symptoms and helping more the affected ones that need a chance.
Wynne signed a six album deal with Warner Bros. in 2010 his first album ‘A Song In My Heart’ went straight to number one in the Classical Charts.
In 2009 Wynne became the face and voice in the multi million pound advertising campaign for one of the UK’s leading comparison website GoCompare.com, playing the flamboyant character 'Gio Compario'. Wynne has gone onto make dozens of adverts for GoCompare.com both on Radio and TV.
In 2004 Wynne famously responded on behalf of the Welsh Rugby Team to the New Zealand Haka, and has since gone on to sing at over 20 internationals, and is a firm favorite at the Principality Stadium.
Wynne also Presents a radio show on BBC Radio Wales, and has presented his own TV show on BBC TV network and S4C.
